RIBBON - a ribbon with a fine copper
wire woven along each selvedge, which gives flexibility & malleability
to create bows & flowers that will hold their shape.
TAFFETA - a plain-woven ribbon with
a slight sheen, made of various fibers, such as silk, rayon, or
polyester.
SATIN - woven ribbon with a glossy
and shiny surface.
GROS GRAIN - a ribbed woven ribbon,
traditionally used by milliners to decorate & finish hats. The authentic
French gros grain (rayon and cotton) is woven on a shuttle loom
which creates a natural delicate picot edge.
ORGANDY - a diaphanous ribbon made
from very finely woven yarns creating an incredible light & delicate
appearance.
BROCADE - a ribbon interwoven with a rich, raised design.
PICOT - a small embroidered loop forming
an ornamental edging on some ribbon.
IRIDESCENT - a ribbon offering lustrous,
rainbow-like colors; brilliant, lustrous, shimmering & colorful
in effect and appearance.
VARIEGATED - a ribbon with colors changing
from one to another; e.g., from yellow to red along its length.
OMBRÉ - a ribbon whose color blends
between two different shades; e.g., lavender to purple along its
width.
MOIRÉ - a ribbon with a wavy or rippled
surface pattern, watermarked effect.
CHENILLE - a ribbon which has a velvety
tufted appearance - French for caterpillar.
SOUTACHE - a narrow flat braid.
